Dyslexia Unplugged: Overcoming Challenges Through Gaming
This week at Mud Club, we’re exploring how different brains approach reading, instructions, problem-solving, and gameplay. 💜 Members will practice slowing down for important information, using strategies that work for them, and recognizing that needing a different approach doesn’t mean there’s only one “right” way to succeed.
This Week’s Activities
🏡 Build Challenge — Fantasy Forest
⛏️ Survival Quest — Netherite Mission
🕶️ Quest VR Spotlight — Pixel Dungeon
🎥 Stream Adventures — Race to the Sanctuary
🧰 Weekly Tool Idea — Minecraft Allay Reading Light
💡 Why This Theme Matters
Games are full of written instructions, symbols, maps, menus, and fast-moving information. Learning to pause, reread, ask questions, or use visual cues helps kids develop strategies for navigating information with greater confidence. These skills can support independence and self-advocacy far beyond gaming.
Ways to Support at Home
Give your child time to process written instructions without rushing
Encourage them to identify strategies that make reading or directions easier
Normalize asking for clarification when something isn’t clear
Celebrate problem-solving and persistence rather than speed
Try Asking Your Child
“What helps you when instructions in a game are confusing?”
“Is there a way you learn or remember things that works especially well for you?”
Different players process information in different ways. This week is about discovering strategies, building confidence, and recognizing the strengths each brain brings to the game. 🎮💜
